About this opportunity

Role Title: NDT Subject Matter Expert – Laser Shearography (Level II / Level III)

Role Type: Contractor

Location: Remote

micro1 is engaging NDT Subject Matter Experts – Laser Shearography (Level II / Level III) to support a customer's advanced aerospace inspection project. In this role, you'll apply your expertise to help train next-generation AI systems. Your work will shape how models learn, reason, and perform through high-quality, real-world input. No prior experience in AI is required — your domain knowledge is what matters.

Scope of Work

• Conduct rigorous manual analysis of laser shearography data, including fringe patterns and interferograms, to identify and characterize composite material defects.

• Review and interpret technical case papers, test logs, and inspection limits for aerospace applications using NDT standards.

• Evaluate and document defect types, severity, and potential impact on composite structures, providing detailed rationale for decisions.

• Deliver comprehensive written feedback on inspection findings, supporting the development and refinement of technical protocols.

• Collaborate remotely with project managers and technical stakeholders via clear, professional written and verbal communication.

• Ensure that all assessments and reviews are completed without the aid of AI tools, maintaining the highest standard of manual inspection integrity.

Preferred Qualifications

• Current ASNT / NAS 410 / ISO 9712 Level II or Level III certification in Laser Shearography or related NDT methods.

• Extensive hands-on experience with laser shearography, particularly in aerospace or advanced composite inspection scenarios.

• Demonstrated expertise interpreting shearography fringe patterns and optical interferometry data for defect evaluation.

• Strong analytical skills in defect identification, root cause analysis, and reporting within stringent aerospace standards.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, including technical documentation and collaborative problem-solving.

• Familiarity with industry best practices for non-destructive inspection of composite materials.

• Experience providing technical guidance or quality engineering for similar NDT projects – direct inspection or review background is highly valued.
